Research History / Discussion

'On the verso, in grisaille, a female saint. The panel was probably a wing of a triptych. A strip has been removed below, cutting off a part of the hands. The deal panel and the kerchief both bespeak a Netherlandish origin and suggest that the portrait may have been painted during Cranach’s visit to those parts in 1508'
