The young King Solomon is represented enthroned and surrounded by his court at the back of a room shown in one point perspective. The foreground is occupied by the henchman and both mothers. The henchman is about to draw his sword and has already grabbed the child held by the young mother on the right. At the left side the legitimate mother of the child has fallen on her knees, despairing over Solomon's judgement she begs for mercy. In front of them lies the dead child of the wrong mother.
