The painting depicts Christ's corpse lying beside the foot of the cross encircled by St John, the Virgin Mary with three female attendants and St Mary Magdalene in mourning. Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea kneel to the right with the crown of thorns and the oinment vessel.
