DESCRIPTION

Tools/Material:

- dry, black drawing material, possibly dark chalk

Type/Ductus:

- fine tracing/copied lines

Function:

- binding for the final painted version; lines define the main contours and describe facial features (nose, eyes); no representation of volume with hatching strokes

Deviations:

- only minor corrections were made to forms during the painting process; changes e. g. in the hat on the right hand side

INTERPRETATION

Attribution:

- not possible; probably created in Lucas Cranach the Elder's workshop witrhin the context of serial production
